Melanoma is a very serious and dangerous type of skin cancer.  As with many conditions, early detection is key in successful treatment.  In the case of melanoma, there is almost a 100% cure rate when the cancer is detected and treated early.

To help in the early detection of melanoma, you should familiarize yourself with your body and its moles.  By looking for the appearance of unusual-looking moles and for changes in existing moles (size, shape or color), you can help us detect melanoma when it starts.  A change in appearance of an existing mole is the most common first sign of melanoma.
